What to know before you choose
Taxes and schools follow the county
Summerville sales split almost evenly between Berkeley and Dorchester counties, with a few in Charleston County. The county sets your tax bill and your school district, so two Summerville homes close together can differ on both. Read how the 4% owner rate works before you buy.
New construction or preowned
About half of Summerville and most of Ravenel and Hollywood sales were new construction. Builder contracts and incentives work differently from a preowned sale. My new construction guide walks through it.
Drive it at rush hour
The distance on a map is not the whole story. Before you commit, drive from the home to your work at the time you would really leave, and back again in the evening.
